Beijing is a fantastic place - once you remove the pollution, crazy traffic rules and the cigarette smoke. From June of last year to the end of May this year I spent 5 on and off monts studying Mandarin. It is one hard language to learn but I like to think I enjoyed trying - even if most of Beijing didn't understand what I was saying.
As a student you have plenty of free time so I managed to get away and explore some of the different areas Bejing has to offer. One of my favourite places was Ho Hai. It's full of small independant shops and restaurants/ bars setteled inbetween a lake and the old hutongs - very picturesque. Luckily for me, the first time I visited this place was when it was raining and at night but rain does creat puddles, which inturn can creat some great relections.
This is a photo down one of the main shopping alleyways of Ho Hai. It's an HDR converted from a single exposure.
